Kelso Technologies Gets Approval for New Angle Valve

News related to:Kelso Technologies Inc · 2 min read

Kelso Technologies Inc, a leading developer and manufacturer of proprietary rail tank car equipment, has achieved a significant milestone with the approval of its new 2-inch angle valve (K2AV) by the Association of American Railroads (AAR). This approval marks the completion of the company’s Kelso Pressure Car Kit (KPCK), a comprehensive solution designed to address the needs of pressure tank cars carrying liquefied compressed gases.

The K2AV valve, engineered for loading and unloading pressure tank cars, has successfully passed the required AAR field service trial and is now approved for commercial manufacturing and sales across North America. This valve is part of the KPCK, which now includes a pressure relief valve, excess flow check valve, thermometer well, needle sampling valve, magnetic gauging device, and three K2AV units per tank car.

According to Jesse Crews, Chief Executive Officer of Kelso Technologies Inc, the K2AV addresses documented customer demand for improved performance over existing market alternatives. The valve is available in two configurations: a single-piece fabricated stainless steel design and a U.S.-sourced investment casting. Key features include no wetted or outlet O-rings requiring replacement, a self-draining and self-cleaning seat, low operating torque for ease of use, an adjustable packing gland, and full serviceability. All K2AV units are manufactured in the United States with AAR-standard mounting, ensuring interchangeability with other 2-inch angle valves.

With approximately 80,000 pressure tank cars currently in service, future demand for the KPCK is expected to be sustained by new car production, re-qualifications, and fleet maintenance and repairs. Amanda Smith, Chief Operating Officer, stated that the response to the K2AV from industry stakeholders involved in the final design specifications has been very encouraging. She added that with production approval now secured, the company is focused on ramping up manufacturing, supporting customer qualification programs, and bringing this innovative product to market.

The approval of the K2AV is expected to positively impact Kelso Technologies Inc’s revenue beginning in fiscal year 2027. This is due to the completion of the KPCK, which will enable the company to pursue a greater share of the pressure car market.

Commercial deliveries of the K2AV are expected to commence soon, with customer engagement and production planning already underway. The approval strengthens Kelso’s position within the North American rail tank car industry and its reputation for innovation and engineering excellence.
