Kalmar unites Terminal Tractors and Horizontal Transportation divisions

Kalmar Corporation, a leading provider of material handling solutions, is set to simplify its organizational structure to accelerate growth, enhance customer focus, and optimize operational efficiency. The strategic move, announced on September 3, 2026, involves the consolidation of its Terminal Tractors and Horizontal Transportation divisions into a unified division.

This reorganization is part of a broader plan to streamline Kalmar's operations and align with its "Driving Excellence" initiative. Sami Niiranen, President and CEO of Kalmar, stated, "Our core strength is in customer proximity and delivering sustainable material handling solutions. By unifying our Terminal Tractors and Horizontal Transportation portfolios, we aim to offer a complete, customer-focused and technology-driven solution to our port, terminal, and distribution customers."

Under the new structure, the Services segment will continue to focus on capturing recurring lifecycle value through spare parts, maintenance, and advanced lifecycle solutions. The external reporting structure, which currently separates Equipment and Services, will remain unchanged.

Kalmar's leadership team will undergo significant changes. Arto Keskinen, the current President of Horizontal Transportation, has been appointed to lead the design phase and will serve as the new President of the newly combined division of Terminal Tractors and Horizontal Transportation. Thor Brenden, the current President of Terminal Tractors, will succeed Alf-Gunnar Karlgren as the President of the Counterbalanced division, effective January 1, 2027.

The planning phase for the new operating model is expected to commence immediately, with changes to be implemented gradually in accordance with local employee consultation and union notification processes. Kalmar estimates that the restructuring will result in cost savings of approximately EUR 10 million, with full run-rate savings achieved by the end of 2027.

Niiranen added, "Throughout this transition, our commitment to customers remains our top priority. We will work closely with our people and unions to ensure a smooth transition." The restructuring plans do not impact Kalmar's financial guidance for 2026, as the company continues to project a comparable operating profit margin above 12.5 percent.
