BERKELEY, Calif., Sept. 24, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Juniper Re, a reinsurance broker specializing in risk management, has expanded its catastrophe modeling capabilities by licensing KatRisk's Severe Convective Storm and Wildfire models. This move builds on Juniper Re's existing use of KatRisk's flood modeling tools, providing the company with a broader range of risk assessment tools.

According to Adam Miron, Head of Catastrophe Analytics at Juniper Re, the agreement with KatRisk is designed to enhance the reinsurance broker's ability to evaluate and manage risk across multiple perils.

The KatRisk Severe Convective Storm Model offers a probabilistic view of hail, tornado, and straight-line wind risk, supporting analysis of both individual locations and portfolios. The KatRisk Wildfire Model, developed in collaboration with Technosylva, combines catastrophe modeling with wildfire science to model the physical processes that determine how fires ignite and spread, extending beyond direct fire damage to capture smoke impacts and urban conflagration.

The agreement between Juniper Re and KatRisk builds on their existing relationship, which began with the use of KatRisk's flood modeling capabilities. By incorporating additional, independent views of risk, Juniper Re can evaluate exposure using models built around the physical drivers of each peril while retaining the flexibility to develop its own perspectives on vulnerability and loss.

In the UK, Juniper Re is a trading name of Juniper Re UK, Ltd, which is an appointed representative of Servca Group Limited. Servca is authorized and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) with an FCA registration number of 596006. Juniper Re UK is registered in England and Wales, with an FCA registration number of 1021485, a registered company number of 16047805, and a registered office at 27 Old Gloucester Street, London.

The KatRisk models have been validated against the 2025 Palisades and Eaton fires, using observed data from two of the most consequential recent urban wildfire events to test their representation of fire behavior and resulting impacts. Together with KatRisk's established flood capabilities, the models give Juniper Re additional tools to evaluate catastrophe risk across multiple perils within a consistent modeling framework.

The partnership between Juniper Re and KatRisk underscores the growing need for innovative and rigorously validated modeling approaches in the insurance and reinsurance industries. As severe convective storm and wildfire risk continue to evolve, organizations like Juniper Re are increasingly seeking multiple, scientifically grounded perspectives on risk to better understand and manage potential losses.
