On September 3, 2026, a group of journalists from over ten APEC economies, including Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Pakistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and South Korea, gathered in Shenzhen for a unique cultural and technological experience. The event, "Read the Asia-Pacific · Discover Shenzhen" - 2026 APEC Reading Salon and Silk Road Cultural Market, was co-presented by the Program Group of Silk Road Story of Guangdong Satellite TV, Guangdong Touch Media Technology Co., Ltd., and the Eyes of the GBA.
Located at the North Zone of the Eyes of the GBA, the market showcased a diverse array of stalls across three zones: "Silk Road Treasures," "Guangdong Delights," and "Shenzhen Innovations." The Silk Road zone featured products from Serbia, France, Pakistan, Russia, and Korea, offering a taste of global culture. However, the Guangdong and Shenzhen zones captured the visitors' attention, displaying a blend of intangible cultural heritage and cutting-edge technology.
Visitors tried their hand at traditional fish-print New Year paintings and experienced the charm of China's cultural heritage through ink and paper. A Pakistani journalist engaged in conversation with a wood art vendor in his native language, while a Korean reporter expressed delight at recognizing familiar products. An editor-in-chief from a Kazakhstani business publication made a purchase, inviting the artist to visit his country, and a Russian broadcasting network producer was pleasantly surprised to find Russian art on display.
The event was part of Guangdong's push for global exports and was seen as a window into Shenzhen's rich cultural and technological landscape. Within an hour, positive words such as "beautiful," "miracle," "warm," and "familiar" began to circulate among the journalists. They praised the seamless integration of cultural heritage and technological innovation, highlighting Shenzhen's role as a city that creates miracles.
The three-day market was a significant milestone in Shenzhen's efforts to showcase its cultural and technological achievements to the world. Through the eyes of international media, the market served as a vibrant page in Shenzhen's invitation to "meet Shenzhen and witness miracles."
