Jon Dormo Joins FirstEnergy as Vice President of Generation Project Development

Akron, Ohio, Jon Dormo, a seasoned energy industry executive, has joined FirstEnergy Corp. as Vice President of Generation Project Development, effective September 3, 2026. Dormo will work under Chris Beam, FirstEnergy's President of West Virginia and Maryland, to develop new power generation projects that address the growing demand for electricity.

Dormo will collaborate with various teams within FirstEnergy and engage with community leaders, regulators, and stakeholders to explore opportunities for building reliable and affordable sources of electricity. His role is crucial as the need for new power generation capacity continues to increase.

With nearly two decades of experience in the energy sector, Dormo has held leadership roles in engineering, construction, operations, development, project management, and strategic planning. Most recently, he served as Managing Director, Projects, at American Electric Power (AEP), overseeing the siting and construction of new generation capital projects while managing major project safety, environmental, and construction responsibilities.

Throughout his career, Dormo has been involved in planning, developing, and building a wide range of energy projects, including gas generation, wind, and solar facilities, substations, and other electric infrastructure. He has extensive experience in evaluating project risks, supporting permitting and development activities, negotiating engineering and construction contracts, managing capital investments, and collaborating with stakeholders.

Dormo holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University and an MBA from Capital University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and a certified Project Management Professional.

As part of his new role, Dormo will be involved in evaluating and advancing the Maidsville Energy Center proposal. Mon Power and Potomac Edison, subsidiaries of FirstEnergy, are seeking approval from the Public Service Commission of West Virginia for a 1,200-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas plant near Fort Martin Power Station in Maidsville and 70 megawatts of solar generation in Preston, Hancock, and Tucker counties.

The companies anticipate a decision from the PSC later this year. Fort Martin and Harrison Power Station will remain in operation, aligning with the Integrated Resource Plan that outlines FirstEnergy's strategy for delivering reliable and affordable power to customers over the next decade.
