Jody Peacock wins inaugural CARGO Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 3, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Jody Peacock, CEO of Ports of Indiana, has been honored with the inaugural CARGO Award by the Inland Rivers, Ports, and Terminals (IRPT) at its annual conference on September 3. The award recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to the advancement of the inland waterways industry.

Peacock, who has spent more than two decades in the maritime industry and has been CEO of Ports of Indiana since 2020, was chosen for his extensive work in transforming and growing Indiana's port system. Aimee Andres, executive director of IRPT, presented the award, highlighting Peacock's efforts to expand ports, foster business and community opportunities, and strengthen maritime transportation's connection to economic development.

During his tenure, Peacock has spearheaded numerous initiatives, including the creation of Indiana's northern and southern port districts, which now rank as the top inland port and the second-largest Great Lakes port in the country. His leadership has also led to unprecedented growth, securing the largest federal grants in the organization's history, and opening a new dock after two decades.

Peacock's career has seen him contribute significantly to the transformation of Ports of Indiana from a government-funded agency into a self-funded, entrepreneurial organization. Under his leadership, the port authority supports 50,000 jobs and contributes $8.7 billion annually to the state economy. In addition to his CEO role, Peacock was recently elected to IRPT's Board of Directors as a Great Lakes Basin director, furthering the organization's representation and connectivity.

Inland Rivers, Ports, and Terminals, founded in 1974, is a nationwide, non-profit trade association that advocates for the United States inland waterway transportation system. The CARGO Award, created to recognize individuals who have moved the industry forward, highlights Peacock's commitment to advancing river growth and operations.
