Japan-America Society Hosts Largest Otsukimi Festival in Plano

PLANO, TX, September 10, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Japan-America Society of DFW is set to host its largest Otsukimi Japanese Moon Viewing Festival on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Haggard Park in Plano, Texas. The free, family-friendly event promises to showcase a diverse array of Japanese cultural experiences, entertainment, and cuisine.

Located at 901 E. 15th Street, Haggard Park will come alive with the sounds of traditional taiko drumming and the vibrant energy of sumo wrestling demonstrations. Dallas Kiyari Daiko will perform at 6:00 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. at the Main Stage and Martial Arts venue, while Dallas Sumo Club will stage sumo wrestling showcases at 6:20 p.m., 8:00 p.m., and 8:50 p.m.

The festival will also feature a Ghibli Song Concert, with performances at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Stage. A Children's Chorus Concert will entertain audiences at 7:00 p.m., and Okinawan dance will bring the Main Stage to life at 7:40 p.m. An exciting Live JPOP Concert by the band Sallad will take place at 8:20 p.m., followed by an anime screening and voice actor appearance at 9:10 p.m.

Activities will spread throughout the festival grounds, with various performances and demonstrations happening at different locations. Guests can explore the Main Stage, Martial Arts venue, and other areas to experience the full range of cultural offerings. Additionally, the SpotOn Food Pavilion will offer a wide variety of authentic Japanese, Asian, and American cuisine.

Plano Mayor John B. Muns will be on hand to welcome festival-goers, adding to the sense of community and celebration. Visitors are encouraged to register in advance for free tickets, which come with the opportunity to win door prizes and receive updates on the event schedule.

The Otsukimi Festival, meaning "moon viewing," is a centuries-old Japanese tradition celebrating the beauty of the moon and the changing of seasons.
