Itron Launches IEE Cloud AI to Enhance AMI and Grid Edge Investments

Itron, Inc., the provider of intelligent infrastructure for modern energy and water management, has introduced Itron Enterprise Edition (IEE) Cloud AI, a new solution designed to enhance the value of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and grid edge investments. This new offering aims to provide utilities with advanced analytics, operational intelligence, and AI-enabled workflows, enabling them to better manage their energy and water resources.

IEE Cloud AI is built on a modern cloud architecture and integrates with Itron’s Intelligent Edge Operating System (IEOS). This integration allows utilities to access, share, and act on trusted data across their operations, reducing data silos and supporting AI-enabled workflows. The solution is available via Itron’s preferred cloud service providers, offering utilities flexibility in aligning deployments with their cloud strategy while reducing costs and improving operational visibility.

Don Reeves, senior vice president of Outcomes at Itron, highlighted the importance of the new solution. "Utilities are facing rapid data growth, rising regulatory expectations, and increasing operational complexity. They are ready to modernize, but need a practical path that protects the trusted data foundation their operations depend on," he said.

IEE Cloud AI offers several key features, including outage insights, grid visibility, anomaly detection, revenue assurance, and forecasting. These capabilities are designed to help utilities maximize their grid edge investments and turn trusted operational data into actionable intelligence. The solution supports near real-time streaming, on-demand operations, and service-based capabilities such as queues and dynamic scaling.

According to Reeves, IEE Cloud AI modernizes utility data practices by removing the barriers associated with traditional meter data management. Utilities can determine when data is loaded, validate readings as they arrive, address exceptions throughout the day, reduce dependence on overnight processing windows, and work with broader datasets. The cloud architecture allows the system to organize around the utility’s work, providing a more efficient and flexible approach to data management.

The solution also includes AI-trained, natural-language, and agent-assisted workflows, which help users more easily retrieve information and gather context across connected systems while receiving assistance with operational tasks under human oversight. This reduces repetitive work, improves data quality, and accelerates operational decision-making.

IEE Cloud AI will be available globally in January 2027. Utilities can leverage Itron Managed Services, a cost-effective offering that enables Itron to manage IEE Cloud AI on their behalf. Through this offering, utilities benefit from ongoing AI-enabled enhancements, security updates, platform maintenance, and reduced burden on internal IT resources.
