BERLIN, Oct. 21, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- IREN, a vertically integrated AI Cloud platform, has announced the establishment of IREN Europe and the acquisition of Nostrum Group, a Spain-based data center developer. The company is setting its sights on Europe with the Badajoz campus, a planned 300MW data center that will provide a foundation for European AI Cloud capacity. Initial operations are targeted for 2028.
IREN has appointed Roberto Purcaro as Executive Director for Europe and Ángel Corcóstegui as Chair of the newly established board of directors of IREN Europe. Corcóstegui, a former CEO of Banco Santander, brings extensive experience in infrastructure and energy. Purcaro, with over 25 years of international experience in infrastructure, energy transition, and digital infrastructure, will lead the strategic direction of IREN Europe.
The Badajoz campus, located in Extremadura, Spain, is designed to be compatible with NVIDIA DSX AI Factory Platform. It will offer managed AI cloud services for customers seeking greater control over where their AI workloads run and how their data and infrastructure are managed in Europe. The project is part of IREN’s broader strategy to serve customers with different data residency requirements in various regions, including North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
IREN entered Europe in June 2026 with the acquisition of Nostrum Group, a data center developer with a team of over 60 led by Gabriel Nebreda, CEO of IREN Spain. Nebreda’s background in renewable energy and infrastructure development positions IREN to leverage Spain’s excellent connectivity and abundant, competitive renewable energy sources.
The Badajoz campus is expected to deliver approximately 300MW of capacity, aligning with IREN’s vision to offer AI cloud services from its own sites, run by its own people. IREN’s software capabilities, including k0rdent AI, can provision and manage AI infrastructure, addressing data residency, security, and governance requirements for customers.
IREN’s portfolio includes more than 5GW of grid-connected power across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, positioning the company to serve a diverse range of customers. The company’s focus is on developing its own sites and operating them directly, ensuring that its AI cloud services are tailored to meet the specific needs of European customers.
The project is in close consultation with local, regional, and national authorities as it advances. IREN’s commitment to sustainable practices is evident in the Badajoz campus’s design, which includes closed-loop liquid cooling, requiring minimal water for cooling.
As IREN continues to expand its presence in Europe, the company is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for AI cloud services that prioritize data residency and operational control. The Badajoz campus is the first step in IREN’s European strategy, setting the stage for further growth and innovation in the region.
