IperionX Validates GenX™ Continuous Titanium Production Process

IperionX, a leading American titanium metal and critical materials company, has validated its GenX™ continuous titanium production platform, marking a significant step in the evolution of titanium manufacturing. The company’s GenX™ system, which applies the hydrogen-enabled, low-temperature HAMR™ process continuously, has demonstrated substantial improvements in efficiency and cost reduction.
The GenX™ furnace processed over 500 kilograms of titanium powder across four separate runs, each lasting approximately 41 hours, with an average production rate of about 12 kilograms per hour. All samples met the relevant oxygen specifications, with seven of eight angular powder samples meeting the Grade 5 oxygen limit, and four of eight meeting the more stringent Grade 23 oxygen limit. All spherical titanium powder samples met the Grade 23 oxygen limit.
According to IperionX CEO Taso Arima, the GenX™ process has the potential to significantly reduce the cost base for HAMR™ titanium production. The company reported that power consumption was reduced by more than 75% compared to batch HAMR™ processing, and magnesium and hydrogen usage were reduced by 45% and 60%, respectively, per kilogram of titanium powder produced.
Arima stated, "Achieving continuous primary titanium production has long been the ultimate aspiration for the titanium industry. IperionX’s GenX™ process is a continuous titanium production platform that is more efficient to operate and easier to scale. These first results exceeded our expectations."
The GenX™ system has demonstrated a throughput six times greater than the batch HAMR™ system on a like-for-like run time basis. IperionX anticipates that minor process refinements will enable angular powder to meet the Grade 23 oxygen limit. The company plans to continue optimizing the GenX™ furnace and integrate it into a full titanium powder production line during the fourth quarter of 2026.
IperionX’s next steps include conducting technoeconomic and engineering evaluations for the first industrial-scale GenX™ production line. The company aims to establish a scalable platform for expansion that will lower production costs and bring titanium within reach of a broader range of applications.
The validation of the GenX™ platform opens a pathway to a step change in titanium production economics. Moving beyond the batch model used in conventional Kroll titanium production, continuous processing offers the potential for higher throughput, significantly lower unit costs, improved equipment utilization, and reduced processing time. This advancement could have significant implications for the titanium industry, making the metal more accessible and cost-effective for a wider range of applications.
