NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 4, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Investors who purchased HDFC Bank Limited (NYSE: HDB) securities between July 17, 2023, and May 26, 2026, have until October 13, 2026, to apply to become lead plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit, according to ClaimsFiler, a free shareholder information service. The deadline is critical for investors with losses exceeding $100,000.

ClaimsFiler reports that HDFC Bank, along with certain executives, is accused of failing to disclose material information during this period, violating federal securities laws. The allegations stem from a May 27, 2026, news report in The Indian Express, which detailed how the bank allegedly used marketing expenses to pay above-market interest rates to a state-owned enterprise.

According to the report, HDFC Bank paid around Rs 45 crore (approximately $4.7 million) to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to encourage the company to deposit substantial sums with HDFC Bank. The bank reportedly offered MSRDC a 6.01% interest rate, which was 2.51 percentage points higher than the rate it paid to other depositors. To mask this, HDFC Bank labeled the payments as sponsorship for an MSRDC road safety awareness initiative.

The unusual transaction sparked a significant drop in HDFC Bank’s share price. Shares fell $1.02, or 4.1%, to close at $23.78 per share on May 27, 2026, on unusually heavy trading volume.

The lawsuit, titled Soneji v. HDFC Bank Limited, Case No. 26-cv-06943, is pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
