Insightec Reaches 10,000 Patients Treated Milestone in EMEA

Insightec, a global medical technology company, has reached a significant milestone, treating its 10,000th patient across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) with its MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) technology. This achievement marks a doubling of patient volumes in the EMEA region over the past three years, reflecting a rapid expansion of incisionless therapy for essential tremor and Parkinson's disease.

The milestone was announced in a press release from Insightec, headquartered in Haifa, Israel, and Frankfurt, Germany. The company’s Exablate® Neuro platform has been making a difference in the lives of patients in more than 62 treatment centers across 20 countries. However, the release highlights the ongoing challenge of uneven access to advanced treatment options, with significant gaps remaining in many regions.

Insightec’s Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer, Jake Ghannam, expressed pride in the progress made. "Ten thousand is a number, but behind every one of those treatments is a person who got their life back," Ghannam said. "A hand steady enough to hold a cup of coffee, write a birthday card, or hug a grandchild without shaking."

The success of the treatment is illustrated by the story of Juan José, a 56-year-old carpenter from Spain who has lived with essential tremor since childhood. The condition was passed down in his family and had severely impacted his quality of life. After receiving two MRgFUS treatments, Juan José noted, "I didn't want to go out with my partner because I felt like people were watching my every move. Now I feel that I am in control of everything again. You realize it yourself and think, My God, this is living!"

Insightec continues to work with health authorities, clinical societies, and patient groups to promote broader and more equitable access to focused ultrasound therapy. According to Insightec’s Chairman and CEO, Maurice Ferré, MD, the company’s ambition is to establish sustainable treatment pathways in countries where access to the treatment remains limited. "Ten thousand patients is a milestone worth celebrating, but it also reminds us how much more there is to do," Ferré stated. "Where someone lives should not determine whether they can access an appropriate treatment option."

While the treatment is now available at more than 62 centers across 20 countries in the EMEA region, the global footprint is even larger, with over 30,000 patients treated at 226 centers worldwide. Insightec’s Exablate Neuro platform focuses sound waves, safely guided by MRI, to provide treatment to patients with medication-refractory essential tremor and Parkinson's disease, restoring function and enabling patients to return to a more normal life.
