HERTFORDSHIRE, United Kingdom and RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 19, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Innovative Trials, a leading global provider of clinical trial patient engagement, recruitment, and retention solutions, has launched a new initiative aimed at educating the public about clinical trials. The company’s new global public education programme, called the Innovative Trials Academy, seeks to address significant misconceptions and misinformation surrounding clinical trials.
The launch comes after a survey conducted by Innovative Trials revealed a substantial gap between people's confidence in their understanding of clinical trials and their actual knowledge. The survey, which involved 4,001 consumers across the UK and the US, found that 73% of UK adults believe they have a good understanding of clinical trials. However, among those respondents, 43% mistakenly believe that people get paid to participate in clinical trials, 27% think only one clinical trial is needed for each potential new treatment, and 60% are unaware that participants can leave a trial at any time.
The Innovative Trials Academy is designed to equip clinical research professionals with the tools and support needed to deliver educational presentations in various settings, including schools, universities, community groups, and public forums. The initiative aims to educate the public on how clinical trials work, challenge common misconceptions, and promote greater confidence in the research process.
The Academy will offer a range of resources, including presentation materials and tools, to help clinical research professionals engage with their local communities. These resources are intended to provide honest, accessible information that dispels myths and misinformation. The Academy also plans to highlight the experiences and career journeys of those involved in clinical research, making the often complex and unfamiliar industry more approachable.
Innovative Trials believes that greater public understanding can help challenge misconceptions, increase awareness of patient rights and safety, and build confidence in research. By bringing clinical research conversations into communities before people are faced with the decision of whether to participate, the Academy aims to make clinical trials more accessible and understandable.
The survey also highlighted the need to start these conversations earlier. Three-quarters of UK respondents said they were never taught about clinical research at school. In the US, 25% of adults reported having little to no understanding of clinical trials. Additionally, concerns about participation are widespread, with 40% of UK respondents and 37% of US respondents saying not knowing what will happen during a study is a major concern.
Through the Innovative Trials Academy, the company hopes to address these concerns and foster a more informed and engaged public. The Academy's mission is to educate the world about clinical research by meeting people where they live, learn, and gather. It comprises three connected programmes: the Public Education Programme, the Sponsor Education Programme, and ITA Education Partners.
The Public Education Programme is a community-driven initiative where anyone working in clinical research can volunteer their time to deliver honest, accessible talks in schools, universities, scout groups, and workplaces. The Sponsor Education Programme involves pharmaceutical companies and other trial sponsors funding public education events in places people already go, such as health fairs, shopping centres, university open days, and cultural festivals. The ITA Education Partners initiative allows pharmaceutical companies and other organisations in the clinical research space to make a longer-term investment in the Academy, contributing to the ongoing success of the Public Education Programme and enabling wider education initiatives.
Innovative Trials aims to build a future pipeline of people who understand and value research, both as researchers and as study participants. By promoting greater public awareness and understanding, the company hopes to make clinical trials more accessible and understandable, while encouraging greater awareness of the role research plays in developing new medicines and improving healthcare.
