CERRITOS, Calif., Oct. 8, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Inglewood, California, is taking a significant step toward becoming the second Blue Zone city in the United States, with the launch of a one-year fall prevention pilot program. The initiative, backed by approximately $400,000 in city funding, is a collaboration between the City of Inglewood, the University of Southern California (USC), and InBody USA, a company known for its biomedical technologies.

The Blue Zone designation, earned over years, requires sustained change across an entire population. Inglewood aims to reduce fall risk among its senior citizens, a leading cause of injury and injury-related death among adults aged 65 and older in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four older adults experiences a fall each year, contributing to more than $50 billion in annual U.S. healthcare costs, with the majority borne by Medicare and Medicaid.

The InBody Fall Risk Assessment (FRA) system, which integrates three devices into a single comprehensive evaluation, is at the heart of this initiative. These devices include a force-plate kiosk for balance and reaction-time analysis, an InBody body composition analyzer to identify muscle imbalances and sarcopenia, and a leg-strength dynamometer for objective bilateral force output. The system will be deployed at the Senior Center through KRU Sciences, an applied research company founded by USC researcher Malcolm Jones.

Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. emphasized the importance of reducing falls among seniors.

The path to approval for the initiative was driven by education and community advocacy. USC clinicians and local physical therapy partners advocated for the FRA system after seeing its effectiveness. The case was taken to local leaders, and ultimately, the city council, where dozens of seniors from the Inglewood Senior Center filled the chamber in support.

Inglewood's Senior Center, completed in 2022 with approximately $50 million in city investment, will host the year-long program. The center will serve as a hub for the FRA system, providing a comprehensive assessment and personalized interventions to reduce fall risk among older adults.

InBody USA, known for its award-winning, medical-grade devices, is proud to partner with the City of Inglewood and USC on this initiative.

The FRA system's applications extend well beyond senior care, including rehabilitation, post-injury recovery, and any population working to restore balance and stability. InBody's product line, which includes blood pressure monitors, stadiometers, and the new FRA system, serves clinicians, coaches, athletes, and wellness professionals, supporting anyone working to understand and improve their health or performance.

Inglewood's ambitious goal of becoming the nation's second Blue Zone city underscores the city's commitment to improving the health and well-being of its residents. The initiative, funded by the city and supported by InBody USA and USC, marks a significant step toward achieving this goal.
