India Giving Day 2027, a national day of giving focused on India, is now open for registration. Nonprofit organizations can apply until October 31, 2026. This event, organized by the India Philanthropy Alliance (IPA), aims to expand the reach and impact of giving beyond its initial successful years.
Five years ago, India Giving Day was a bold experiment. Initially, there were concerns about diluting the results for participating organizations by opening the campaign to a broader audience. However, the IPA opted for a "big tent" approach, believing that there are ample resources to advance India's development when organizations work together. This approach has proven successful. The first India Giving Day, held in March 2023, saw 25 nonprofit organizations benefit from the support of over 1,000 donors who contributed a total of $1.4 million.
In its fourth year, the campaign grew significantly, attracting the support of more than 2,300 donors who gave $5.6 million to 51 participating organizations. Campaign leaders are now hoping to expand their reach exponentially by encouraging members of the Indian diaspora to #ShareTheAbundance (Viksit Bharat 2047), a phrase that translates to "Prosperous India 2047." This initiative aims to engage more donors and mobilize greater resources to significantly expand the collective impact for the people and communities of India.
The Indian diaspora is known for its generosity, and India Giving Day provides a platform for this community to contribute.
The 2027 edition of India Giving Day is led by a Steering Committee of IPA Board Members and Staff and supported by a host of National Co-Chairs, Ambassadors, and the Youth Leadership Council. The campaign is sponsored by the Ford Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Sehgal Foundation, Wadhwani Impact Trust, Ujala Foundation, and the Raj Family Foundation.
The India Philanthropy Alliance can be followed on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
India Giving Day is a powerful opportunity for nonprofit organizations to showcase their work, connect with donors, and demonstrate the collective impact that can be achieved. As the campaign enters its fifth anniversary, it is poised to make a significant difference in the lives of people and communities in India.
