Independent Pharmacy Cooperative Acquires USave Pharmacy Group

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis., Sept. 1, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Independent Pharmacy Cooperative (IPC) has completed its acquisition of USave Pharmacy Group, effective September 1, 2026. The merger brings together two organizations dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of independent community pharmacies.
USave Pharmacy Group, which has operated for over four decades, has long served as a hub for independent pharmacy owners, facilitating purchasing opportunities, fostering peer collaboration, and offering dedicated support. This acquisition enables IPC to build on this legacy while maintaining the unique identity, relationships, and community spirit that have defined USave.
“USave was built on the principle of pharmacy owners supporting pharmacy owners,” said Bill Hamik, CEO of USave Pharmacy Group. “Our stores value the relationships, responsiveness, and shared identity that come with being part of this community. IPC understands that history and recognizes the importance of preserving USave’s identity, not replacing it. This new chapter will allow our pharmacies to retain what they value most about USave while gaining access to additional resources and opportunities for the future.”
IPC and USave have been working closely for several years. IPC first established a relationship with USave in 2017, focusing on connecting USave pharmacies with IPC resources and purchasing opportunities. “IPC’s mission has always been to help independent pharmacies remain strong, locally owned, and competitive,” said Marc Essensa, President and CEO of IPC. “USave shares that same commitment. This acquisition is about preserving a respected organization, building on the trust it has earned, and bringing additional strength and resources to its pharmacies. We believe USave’s history, identity, and relationships will remain an important part of its future.”
IPC’s entire team, from member services to distribution, from member performance to government relations, will continue to support USave Pharmacy Group as they have since 2017. Kate Helf, IPC Vice President of Pharmacy Innovation, who has worked closely with USave for the past 10 years, will serve as the liaison to ensure a smooth transition.
Independent Pharmacy Cooperative is a member-owned cooperative that supports independent pharmacies across the United States. IPC provides its members with access to purchasing opportunities, pharmacy services, operational support, advocacy, business development resources, and innovative solutions designed to help independent pharmacy owners remain competitive and continue serving their communities.
