HII Awarded Contract to Advance Airdrop Technologies for U.S. Army

MCLEAN, Va., Sept. 15, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- HII, the nation’s largest shipbuilder, has been awarded a task order to research and develop improved airdrop and combat feeding techniques to support U.S. Army soldier sustainment. The five-year contract, awarded under the Information Analysis Center Multiple Award Contract, will see HII’s Mission Technologies division focus on advancing cargo and personnel airdrop technologies for both precision-guided and conventional aerial delivery systems.

According to Todd Gentry, president of Mission Technologies’ All-Domain Operations group, the safety and mission success of U.S. troops depend on their ability to stay supplied and mobile, even in the most challenging environments. The effort will encompass improving equipment reliability, safety, and interoperability between systems. Additionally, the project will explore the integration of sensing technologies, autonomous capabilities, and cybersecurity protections to mitigate environmental and operational threats.

The task order is part of HII’s extensive expertise in soldier sustainment technologies. With nearly 60 active task orders on the IAC MAC program, HII is well-positioned to deliver cutting-edge solutions. The company’s experience in building and integrating defense capabilities, including unmanned systems, positions it as a key player in advancing airdrop technologies.

HII’s Mission Technologies division will work closely with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center to ensure that the technologies developed meet the needs of the military. The Information Analysis Center Multiple Award Contract, administered by the Defense Technical Information Center, provides technical data management and research support for the U.S. Department of Defense and federal government users.
