Outdoor Holding Company, the parent company of GunBroker.com, the largest online marketplace for firearms and related products, has appointed Greg Arnold as Vice President of Software Development. Arnold will lead the company's efforts in platform modernization and the integration of AI to enhance the software development organization.
Arnold will report directly to Outdoor Holding Company’s Chairman and CEO, Steve Urvan. His role will focus on setting the technical direction for the GunBroker platform and overseeing the engineering organization's evolution. This includes modernizing the platform, streamlining the development process from idea to production, and ensuring the marketplace remains fast, reliable, and secure. Arnold will also drive the disciplined adoption of AI, ensuring its use adheres to strict standards for security, intellectual property protection, and responsible deployment.
The appointment aligns with the company’s strategic priorities for the upcoming fiscal year, including growing marketplace activity, expanding transaction monetization, and leveraging AI to improve listing quality and customer service efficiency. Urvan highlighted Arnold’s experience, noting that he has led large engineering organizations through complex platform transformations and has been hands-on in building and operating production software with AI. "Greg embodies our operating philosophy of Continuous Improvement and Disciplined Growth," said Urvan.
Arnold brings over 26 years of technology and engineering experience from Lumen Technologies, where he led a 140-person organization responsible for software engineering, site reliability, and production operations. At Lumen, he modernized enterprise ordering and provisioning systems, launched an extensive API marketplace, and built the company's data science organization from the ground up. Since then, he has continued to work on production software built with AI, establishing governance and human review practices for its responsible use.
"GunBroker has established a robust and secure marketplace over the past two decades," Arnold stated. "The challenge now is to integrate a modern engineering model that balances innovation with reliability. This involves modernizing the platform, improving our development and release processes, and applying AI across the lifecycle with the necessary governance and human oversight."
Arnold’s background in high-availability transactional platforms and his hands-on experience with AI makes him well-suited for this role. He holds a B.S. in Information Technology from Purdue University Global and has served as a nuclear electronics technician in the United States Navy.
GunBroker.com, a subsidiary of Outdoor Holding Company, operates as the largest online marketplace for firearms, hunting, and shooting products.
