Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd (GMG) has officially opened its Gen 2.0 Graphene Manufacturing Plant in Queensland, Australia. The plant was inaugurated by Honourable Bryson Head, the Queensland Government State Member for Callide and Assistant Minister for Regional Development, Resources, and Critical Minerals.

The Gen 2.0 Plant, which began operations on July 6, 2026, is a significant milestone for GMG. According to Craig Nicol, the company's Managing Director and CEO, the opening marks a crucial step in advancing the company's commercial-scale production capabilities.

Head emphasized the importance of the plant in Queensland's economic and technological landscape.

The Gen 2.0 Plant is expected to be largely self-powered from standalone energy generation that utilizes renewable sources, an energy storage system, and hydrogen-enriched natural gas provided by tail gas power generation. This sustainable approach aligns with GMG's commitment to clean technology and environmental sustainability.

The plant's capabilities extend to various applications, including energy savings and energy storage. GMG has developed graphene-enhanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC-R) coatings and graphene lubricant additives. The company is also collaborating with the University of Queensland to develop graphene batteries, with financial support from the Australian Government.

GMG's four critical business objectives include producing graphene, improving and scaling cell production processes, building revenue from energy savings products, developing next-generation batteries, and developing supply chain, partners, and project execution capability.

The Australian Super Car Championship GMG Partners, including the Tickford Racing Team and driver Thomas Randle, participated in the official opening. The team shared updates on their progress and expressed gratitude for their partnership with GMG.

The Gen 2.0 Plant is expected to play a pivotal role in GMG's expansion plans and contribute to the state's economic and technological ambitions. With its focus on critical minerals and advanced manufacturing, the plant underscores the company's commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
