Global Artivism Month, a worldwide initiative launched by the Global Artivism Movement, invites communities across more than 100 countries to participate in a month-long celebration of art and culture aimed at driving social and environmental change. The movement, which runs from November 1 to December 10, 2026, encourages local creative actions under a shared global identity, making visible thousands of separate acts of creativity, resistance, and imagination.
The inaugural year of Global Artivism Month targets more than 100 countries and 5,000 participating organizations and collectives. The event is decentralized, allowing activities to remain locally owned, in participants' own languages, and within their political realities. At its core is a Sunrise Relay, which moves the spotlight from region to region as the Earth turns, and a growing Global Artivism Mosaic, a collective visual record of cultural actions.
The 40-day period coincides with significant global moments for justice and solidarity, including COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye (November 9 to 20), the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (November 25 to December 10), and World AIDS Day (December 1) and Human Rights Day (December 10). These events provide a concentrated platform for participants to engage in art, culture, and action.
Kumi Naidoo, co-founder of the Global Artivism Movement and former Secretary-General of Amnesty International and Executive Director of Greenpeace International, emphasized the importance of connecting hearts, bodies, souls, and imaginations to build movements.
Natalia Mallo, Global Artivism Month Specialist and a São Paulo-based multi-artist, curator, and cultural strategist, coordinated the movement.
The movement's premise is that art is not decoration added after the "real" work of social change has been done; culture itself is power. In 2025, the Global Artivism Convening in Salvador, Brazil, brought together more than 1,000 people in person and hundreds more online, from 86 countries.
Participants can connect with the movement through a Participation Form available at form.jotform.com/262294214279057. To learn more, visit www.globalartivism.org/artivism-month.
