SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 30, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- GigU, the smart co-pilot app for gig drivers, has made its full suite of tools free for all U.S. rideshare and delivery drivers through the end of 2026. This move comes as gig driver unions push for better contracts with Uber and Lyft, aiming to provide drivers with more transparency and control over their earnings.

The app, which previously required a subscription, now offers its core features, Cherry Picker and NetProfit tools, free of charge. These tools allow drivers to evaluate incoming trip offers based on their real operating costs, helping them decide which trips are worth accepting. According to GigU, drivers who use these tools report earning up to 30 percent more.

GigU CEO and co-founder Luiz Neves emphasized the significance of this change.

The app is now available on both iOS and Android, making it more accessible to nearly eight million U.S. gig workers. Drivers who were paying for the app before September 1 will receive one additional year of free access as a loyalty reward.

GigU's decision to make its tools free is part of a broader effort to support gig workers during a critical time. Labor Day 2026 marked a turning point for American gig drivers, with California becoming home to the world's largest union of gig workers, thanks to historic legislation. This legislation provided a pathway to unionization for roughly 800,000 rideshare workers.

However, the negotiations over pay and benefits will take time. GigU believes that providing drivers with the information they need to make informed decisions is crucial. The company's research, based on anonymized ride-offer data from GigU users, shows that in unregulated cities, half of all trip offers paid below 90 cents per mile. In contrast, in cities with pay standards, such as Boston, ride offers averaged more than 2.5 times higher.

Len Sherman, Executive in Residence and Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, highlighted the issue.

GigU is also developing new tools that will allow drivers to compare their own results against what other drivers are earning in the same city, at the same hours, and in the same conditions. This feature aims to close the information gap that has favored the platforms since the rideshare industry began.

The app is now available on the App Store and Google Play, and GigU is encouraging drivers to download and use it to improve their earnings. The company is optimistic that this move will help drivers take control of their earnings and make more informed business decisions.
