GEX Management, Inc., a Dallas-based strategy and operations consultancy, has launched a new podcast called "What the Numbers Miss." The podcast aims to delve into the numbers that companies commonly report and reveal what these figures leave out. Each episode, approximately eleven minutes long, focuses on a single number and explores the arithmetic behind it, highlighting the information that gets averaged away.
The first two episodes of the podcast are now available. In the first episode, titled "The Ten Thousand Dollar Gap," the podcast examines the discrepancy between the hourly wage of a home care aide and their annual earnings. According to PHI's Direct Care Workers in the United States: Key Facts 2025, the median hourly wage for home care aides in 2024 was $17.36, while their median annual earnings were just under $26,000. The episode explores how this difference impacts the turnover rate and the true cost of hiring and retaining these workers.
The second episode, "The Sentence on the Careers Page," delves into the line many employers publish about offering health benefits. The Kaiser Family Foundation's 2025 Employer Health Benefits Survey reports that 80 percent of workers at firms offering coverage are eligible for it, and 76 percent of those eligible enroll, leaving 61 percent of workers covered. The episode breaks down the distance between offered, eligible, and enrolled, and discusses the implications of a change in eligibility versus a change in take-up.
Mr. Sri Vanamali, CEO of GEX Management, explains that most companies operate on numbers that were never designed to answer the questions being asked. "Finding it is not an academic exercise. It is the difference between a business you can improve and one you cannot."
The CEO further elaborates on the conditions behind the show. "There is a widening gap between the companies that can see themselves clearly and the ones that cannot, and it does not track with how good the business is. It tracks with size," he added.
The podcast is available on the company's website and through Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Every figure cited in an episode is published with the document it came from on the company's Knowledge Center. The episodes are hosted by Mr. Vanamali and Ada, an artificial intelligence co-host.
