Gettysburg, PA, Oct. 14, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Gettysburg Railway is set to bring the spirit of the 1863 Gettysburg visit back to life this November, as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

On Wednesday, November 18, 2026, Northern Central Railway’s steam locomotive No. 17 will arrive in Gettysburg, pulling approximately 200 invited passengers into the town. The locomotive will then lead a procession to the David Wills House, retracing the route Lincoln took during his visit.

From November 19 to 21, 2026, Gettysburg Railway will offer the public a unique opportunity to experience steam railroading. One-hour steam excursions will take passengers through the Gettysburg area, allowing them to feel the power of the locomotive and experience railroading history in one of America’s most historic towns. Departing from the 1884 Gettysburg train depot, the restored 1950s-era railcars will provide a blend of classic rail travel with modern comfort.

The special steam excursions are part of a week of programming commemorating Lincoln’s visit and the Gettysburg Address. On November 19, a procession from Lincoln Square to Soldiers’ National Cemetery will precede a recreation of elements from the 1863 dedication ceremony. Details about the event are available on the Lincoln at Gettysburg website.

Amy Welsh, General Manager of Gettysburg Railway, expressed excitement about the commemoration.

The event is part of a broader effort to celebrate the nation’s bicentennial and honor the historical significance of Lincoln’s visit to Gettysburg. Passengers can look forward to a journey that combines history with the thrill of steam railroading, making it a must-see for history buffs and rail enthusiasts alike.
