General Petraeus to Discuss Aluminum Security at National Press Club

WASHINGTON, Oct. 9, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- General David H. Petraeus, a prominent military leader in the post-9/11 era, will participate in a fireside chat on October 16, 2026, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The event, organized by the American Primary Aluminum Association, aims to discuss critical national and economic security issues.

According to the Modern War Institute at West Point, aluminum is a foundational material for aircraft, armored vehicles, naval systems, and munitions components. The release highlights that the United States has lost its ability to produce military-grade aluminum, making the country dependent on foreign suppliers in the Middle East, Russia, and China. This dependency has raised significant national security concerns.

The American Primary Aluminum Association has invited economist Adam Hersh to present a new economic impact study. The study will provide insights into the broader implications of the aluminum shortage on the U.S. economy and defense capabilities.

General Petraeus will address emerging national security threats and current geopolitical issues, emphasizing the importance of domestic aluminum production. The event is expected to attract media attention and generate discussions on how to secure the supply chain for critical materials used in defense.

The American Primary Aluminum Association hopes that the dialogue will lead to actionable steps to bolster the nation's defense and economic resilience.

The organization believes that the event is crucial for policymakers, industry leaders, and defense experts to come together and address the urgent need for a secure domestic aluminum supply. By hosting this fireside chat, the American Primary Aluminum Association aims to spark a broader conversation about the importance of self-reliance in critical materials and the potential economic and security benefits of domestic production.
