Cairo, Egypt, Sept. 16, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Geely Auto's Monjaro EM-i has shattered records by completing the fastest crossing of the Black and White Desert (Sahara) in a plug-in hybrid production SUV. The vehicle, which traveled 188.6 kilometers from the dark volcanic landscape of Egypt’s Black Desert to the chalk-white terrain of the White Desert, demonstrated exceptional performance in extreme conditions.

The Monjaro EM-i, built on Geely’s GEA Evo architecture, underwent rigorous testing designed to push its capabilities to the limit. The vehicle faced challenges such as extreme handling and stability, consecutive steep-slope climbs, cross-axle recovery, ride comfort over rough terrain, and acceleration at a low state of charge. These tests were conducted to showcase the Monjaro EM-i’s robustness and reliability in harsh environments.

At the heart of the Monjaro EM-i’s performance is its e-AWD Intelligent Electric AWD System, which can intelligently adjust the front-to-rear torque distribution between 100:0 and a 50:50 split. This system works in tandem with Geely’s traction-control technology, reducing wheel slip by up to 50% and ensuring the vehicle maintains traction during steep climbs and cross-axle recovery. The vehicle’s Continuous Damping Control suspension, which adjusts up to 50 times per second with a response time of 20 milliseconds, further enhances its handling and comfort.

Powering the Monjaro EM-i is a combination of a 1.5TD hybrid-specific engine and an electric drive system, delivering up to 250 kW of power and 667 N·m of torque. This hybrid system allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.83 seconds. The intelligent power management system ensures responsive performance during low-state-of-charge acceleration, while full-domain thermal management controls temperatures across the engine, battery, electric motor, and power electronics, sustaining output in extreme heat.

The successful record-setting crossing was part of a larger event aimed at showcasing the Monjaro EM-i’s capabilities and building international momentum. The event brought together around 20 media outlets and influencers from Egypt, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Mexico, and Peru. Participants witnessed firsthand how the vehicle’s powertrain, e-AWD system, and suspension responded to sustained high-load driving, rapidly changing terrain, and extreme heat environments.

Geely Auto’s overseas sales have surged, with a 205% year-on-year increase to over 110,094 vehicles in August, setting multiple all-time highs. This momentum is expected to continue as the Monjaro EM-i makes its next international appearance at the Paris Motor Show in October. Through its continued international rollout, Geely Auto aims to bring the Monjaro EM-i’s efficient hybrid technology and refined driving experience to more customers worldwide.
