Galan Lithium Limited, a company based in Catamarca, Argentina, is making steady progress with its Hombre Muerto West (HMW) Phase 1 lithium chloride operation. The company is set to deliver its first lithium chloride (LiCl) concentrate sales in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2026, marking a significant milestone in its production ramp-up.
The nanofiltration plant, which is responsible for removing impurities from the HMW brine, has been performing as expected. Over the past three months, the plant has achieved a 98% or greater rejection rate of sulphate, supporting the upgrading of LiCl concentrate to the targeted 6% lithium content. This process is crucial for ensuring the quality of the final product.
Galan Lithium's Managing Director, Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega, expressed satisfaction with the plant's performance.
To enhance operational resilience during the winter months, Authium Limited is planning to construct and mobilize an additional pressure vessel skid to the site. This expansion is part of Galan Lithium's strategy to ensure continuous operations throughout the year. The company has also commenced earthworks associated with the initial expansion of HMW to a throughput rate of 5.2 ktpa (thousand tonnes per annum), with the higher production volumes expected to be realized in the second half of calendar year 2027.
Despite the severe winter conditions in the Puna region, HMW operations have continued safely. The warmer seasonal conditions, which are expected to arrive over the coming months, are anticipated to improve plant productivity, allowing Galan Lithium to achieve its initial targeted throughput rate of 4 ktpa LCE (lithium carbonate equivalent) in the first half of calendar year 2027.
Galan Lithium Limited remains confident in its ability to meet the production targets and deliver the first LiCl concentrate sales as scheduled.
