BAD HOMBURG, Germany, Sept. 25, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Fresenius Medical Care, the world's leading provider of products and services for individuals with renal diseases, has announced significant changes to its China commercial strategy aimed at long-term growth and market leadership. The company, which has been operating in China for over two decades, is focusing on a more localized portfolio and increased commercialization of locally relevant innovations.
According to Helen Giza, Chief Executive Officer of Fresenius Medical Care, China is a crucial market for the company's Care Enablement business.
The company has strengthened its local leadership, appointing Rex Liu as the General Manager for the China market. Fresenius Medical Care will now concentrate on innovative technologies for in-center dialysis and critical care, including the high-volume hemodiafiltration-enabled 5008S CAREsystem and multiFiltratePRO. The portfolio optimization actions will also see the discontinuation of the 4008A hemodialysis system locally and the exit from its China peritoneal dialysis (PD) business while maintaining existing obligations in the market.
The portfolio adjustments are expected to result in one-time costs of approximately €110 million, primarily attributable to impairment charges, scrappage, and termination costs. These costs will be recognized in the third quarter of 2026 and will be treated as a special item.
China represents approximately 6-7% of Fresenius Medical Care's Care Enablement operating segment revenues and offers long-term growth opportunities. The market is supported by rising prevalence of chronic kidney disease, continued expansion of dialysis care, and increasing demand for advanced treatment technologies. The company remains committed to the market and will continue leveraging its local manufacturing footprint and China Design Center to support profitable growth.
Fresenius Medical Care is the world's leading provider of products and services for individuals with renal diseases, with a network of 3,513 dialysis clinics providing treatments for approximately 290,000 patients globally. Through its network, the company also provides dialysis machines and other products.
