Food For Health, a Milwaukee-based organization dedicated to preventing, managing, and reversing diet-related chronic disease through medically tailored meals, has partnered with Open Hand, an Atlanta-based non-profit with a 40-year track record of success, to expand its Food Is Medicine platform. This transition marks a significant step in the organization’s mission to eliminate diet-related diseases through evidence-based nutrition interventions.

Founded in 1988 in response to America’s escalating AIDS crisis, Open Hand has evolved into one of the nation’s leading Food Is Medicine organizations. In 2012, the organization joined the Food Is Medicine Coalition, further cementing its commitment to addressing diet-related health issues. Open Hand’s expansion into a 43,000-square-foot facility, which it moved into in 2024 after delivering its 35 millionth meal, underscores its continued growth and dedication to serving thousands of seniors, children, and families.

The partnership between Food For Health and Open Hand aims to leverage the strengths of both organizations. Food For Health, as Wisconsin’s first accredited medically tailored meal provider, has developed a proprietary platform and client relationships that will complement Open Hand’s established network. This collaboration will enable the organizations to deliver more comprehensive nutrition solutions to a broader audience, focusing on improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

In addition to the partnership, Food For Health will continue to market two of Milwaukee's most distinctive assets: the purpose-built, USDA- and FDA-certified 15,000-square-foot commercial kitchen at 334 W. Brown Street and the award-winning 40,000-square-foot historic 2007 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive facility. These facilities will serve as key hubs for the organization’s operations and will support its mission to provide medically tailored meals and nutrition education.

With this strategic alliance, Food For Health and Open Hand are poised to make a significant impact in the fight against diet-related diseases. By combining their resources and expertise, the organizations aim to improve the health and well-being of communities across the United States.
