NEW YORK, Oct. 14, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Flashforge, a global 3D printing technology company founded in 2011, has recently introduced its CJ270 desktop full-color 3D printer, bringing material jetting technology into a more compact format. The printer is now available in the United States for $3,999, marking a significant step in making full-color 3D printing more accessible to designers, creators, and small businesses.
The journey to full-color 3D printing began with early pioneers like Z Corporation, which used binder jetting to produce colored models from powder materials. These systems demonstrated the value of full-color printing in architecture and design visualization. Material jetting later expanded these capabilities, with Objet Geometries developing PolyJet technology. Following Objet's merger with Stratasys in 2012, industrial systems continued to advance. In 2016, Stratasys introduced the J750, combining multiple materials and colors to create more realistic prototypes. In 2017, Mimaki introduced the 3DUJ-553, bringing its industrial inkjet expertise to full-color 3D printing with support for more than 10 million colors. These developments expanded the possibilities for detailed visual models.
However, high equipment costs, large footprints, and complex operating requirements continued to limit adoption, particularly among smaller studios and independent creators. As full-color 3D printing technology matured, manufacturers began developing smaller systems designed for a wider range of workspaces. The CJ270, introduced by Flashforge, is one such system. It uses MultiJet Printing (MJP) technology to deposit droplets of UV-curable materials, which are then cured layer by layer using ultraviolet light. The printer combines cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) with white and transparent materials to produce more than 10 million possible color combinations. With a minimum layer thickness of 7 microns, the printer can reproduce fine surface details, while its full-color capabilities support detailed visual designs.
The CJ270 also features a built-in planarizer that levels deposited material during printing to help maintain consistent layers. Its water-soluble support material simplifies support removal, particularly for models with complex geometries. Measuring 697 × 410 × 405 mm, the printer is designed to fit into studios, classrooms, and professional workspaces. This compact size and ease of use make it a practical tool for designers, creators, and small businesses.
Full-color 3D printing is becoming increasingly useful in fields where visual details matter. Product designers can create physical prototypes with realistic colors and graphics before moving into production. Artists and character designers can produce figurines and collectibles with intricate color details. In education and architecture, colored models can help illustrate structures, components, and complex concepts. As the technology develops, wider adoption will depend not only on color capabilities but also on equipment costs, reliability, and ease of use. The CJ270 represents Flashforge's approach to making full-color 3D printing more practical for smaller studios, educational settings, and creative professionals.
