First Tellurium Develops Thermoelectric Film to Extend Solar Panel Power Generation

First Tellurium Corp., through its subsidiary PyroDelta Energy, is developing a novel thermoelectric film designed to extend the operational life of solar panels by generating electricity from temperature differentials. This innovative technology aims to capture energy during periods of low or no sunlight, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of solar installations.

According to Michael Abdelmaseh, the head engineer at PyroDelta Energy, the thermoelectric film is estimated to be about 11% to 12% efficient. While conventional solar panels typically operate at efficiencies of around 20% to 22%, the objective of the new technology is not to replace existing solar panel systems but to complement them.

The film will be applied to the back of conventional photovoltaic (PV) panels without requiring any changes to the basic design or supporting infrastructure. This non-invasive approach makes the technology suitable for both new solar installations and the retrofitting of existing panels. The Company's President and CEO, Tyrone Docherty, emphasized that while the solar technology is still in development, the company's immediate focus remains on bringing its heavy-lift drone technology to market.

The potential market for technologies that can increase the productivity of solar installations is substantial. According to the International Energy Agency Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (IEA PVPS), global installed photovoltaic capacity approached three terawatts (TW) at the end of 2025, with approximately 698 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity installed during the year. Solar PV now supplies more than 10% of global electricity demand.

First Tellurium Corp. believes that the thermoelectric film could complement conventional photovoltaic generation by producing additional electricity when solar irradiance is reduced or unavailable, provided a sufficient temperature differential exists. The film is being designed for application to the back of conventional solar panels without changing their basic design, which opens up potential applications in both new solar installations and the existing global installed base.
