FIOR Group Ltd has appointed Lieutenant General Sir Tom Copinger-Symes as an adviser on defence, cyber, and artificial intelligence (AI). The appointment follows a period of rapid expansion in the adoption of AI across various military and national security functions, including intelligence, cyber operations, logistics, and decision support.
Sir Tom, who previously served as the Deputy Commander of UK Strategic Command, brings over three decades of military and national security experience to the role. His recent responsibilities included overseeing the establishment of the Defence Cyber & Electromagnetic Force and expanding the National Cyber Force. Earlier, he held the position of Director of Military Digitisation, where he was instrumental in developing the Digital Strategy for Defence, which introduced the concept of a Digital Backbone connecting sensors, decision-makers, and effectors across the battlespace. This initiative has since been adopted by NATO.
FIOR's technology aims to address the evolving security challenges posed by the increasing autonomy of AI systems. The company's AI Agent Enforcement Gateway is designed to identify every AI agent, bind it to approved authority, enforce policy at runtime, and create auditable evidence of its actions. This approach ensures that AI agents operate within defined parameters, providing a layer of security that complements existing identity and access management (IAM), security information and event management (SIEM), firewall, observability, and AI platforms.
David Williams, Founder and CEO of FIOR, emphasized the critical nature of the problem Sir Tom is addressing.
Williams further explained that AI agents represent a fundamental shift from providing information to taking action.
Sir Tom Copinger-Symes expressed his enthusiasm for advising FIOR as it develops its technology.
FIOR's technology is designed to operate across organizational and technological boundaries, providing cryptographic identity, deterministic runtime policy enforcement, rapid revocation, and tamper-evident audit capabilities for autonomous AI systems. The company works with enterprises, governments, technology companies, and infrastructure providers seeking to deploy AI agents securely and at scale.
