OTTAWA, Ontario, Oct. 01, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Fairtrade Canada has reached a significant milestone, with the Fairtrade Premium generated by Canadian sales of Fairtrade certified goods surpassing $10 million for the first time. This achievement underscores the impact of Canadian consumers' purchasing power on the lives of farmers and workers in some of the world's most vulnerable communities.
Kicking Horse Coffee, a long-standing Fairtrade brand, has been a key player in this success story. The company, which has been fueling Canadians with its certified Fairtrade and organic coffee beans for 30 years, went 100% Fairtrade in 1998 and has never looked back.
La Siembra, another Fairtrade pioneer, was built on a foundation of Fairtrade principles. Founded in 1999 and known for its Camino brand of chocolate and pantry staples, La Siembra's commitment to Fairtrade is deeply ingrained in its mission.
AWAKE Chocolate, the pioneer of functional chocolate, has also made Fairtrade certification a core part of its mission from the start.
Fairtrade Canada is marking this milestone with the launch of its annual Fairtrade Month campaign, inviting Canadians to "Make It Fairtrade" throughout October. The $10 million figure reflects the collective purchasing power of Canadian shoppers, whose everyday choices can support some of the world's most vulnerable farming communities.
Throughout October, Canadian brands, workplaces, campuses, schools, towns, and retailers will participate in Fairtrade Month activities that highlight the people behind some of our favourite products. These activities aim to raise awareness and encourage more Canadians to support Fairtrade-certified goods, contributing to a more equitable global trade system.
