EMQX Enterprise 6.3.0 enhances security and flexibility for MQTT deployments

EMQ, the company behind the EMQX platform for device connectivity and real-time data movement, has released EMQX Enterprise 6.3.0, a Long-Term Support (LTS) version aimed at enhancing security and operational flexibility for production MQTT deployments.
This latest release significantly bolsters the security framework of the EMQX platform by introducing stronger default security measures and an optional hardened security profile. According to Benniu Ji, Chief Product Officer at EMQ, "Enterprise customers need infrastructure that can be standardized and operated with confidence over time. EMQX Enterprise 6.3 combines long-term support with enhanced security, more predictable operations, and the flexibility to adapt to different deployment environments."
The new LTS release includes MQTT protocol parsing by default, stronger credential protection, and authentication for OpenAPI and Prometheus endpoints. It also introduces a feature called Feature Gates, which allows organizations to tailor the platform to various deployment requirements, from edge nodes to cloud infrastructure and multi-tenant platforms.
"Feature Gates provide a flexible way to match EMQX to the diverse needs of different environments," Ji explained. "Organizations can choose from a FULL configuration that includes all capabilities, an ESSENTIAL configuration focused on core MQTT messaging, authentication, and authorization, or create a custom configuration based on specific deployment needs."
Performance and stability have also seen improvements in EMQX Enterprise 6.3.0. The platform now uses resource-aware defaults to adapt network port and scheduler settings to assigned CPU resources, making it more efficient in smaller deployments and resource-constrained container and Kubernetes environments. Additionally, the default TCP listener now uses Erlang/OTP's modern socket API, while JSON encoding and decoding performance has also been enhanced.
Another notable feature is the introduction of QoS 0 flow control, which addresses the challenge of slow consumers by keeping QoS 0 backlogs bounded while allowing QoS 1 and QoS 2 traffic to continue making progress. This helps maintain more predictable resource usage and system behavior during traffic bursts and uneven downstream consumption.
EMQX Enterprise 6.3.0 also extends the platform's capabilities across cloud and AI workloads. It now supports Google Cloud Bigtable, attached service accounts for Google Cloud Pub/Sub and BigQuery, AWS IAM Roles Anywhere authentication for Kafka, and OpenTelemetry-based integration with Dynatrace. These new capabilities enhance cloud-native credential management and reduce reliance on manually managed, long-lived credentials.
