Emily Harlan Promoted to General Counsel at Bandwidth

Bandwidth Inc., a global cloud communications company, has announced that Emily Harlan has been promoted to the role of General Counsel and Secretary. This promotion comes after eight years of dedicated service to the company, during which Harlan has demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic acumen.

David Morken, Bandwidth's Co-founder and CEO, praised Harlan's contributions, stating, "Emily is an exceptional lawyer, trusted advisor, and proven leader who knows Bandwidth and our business deeply." Morken further noted that Harlan has earned the confidence of the company's leadership team and Board of Directors through her judgment, integrity, and ability to navigate complex issues. "I'm delighted to elevate Emily to this new role as we continue to grow and serve our customers around the world," Morken added.

Harlan joined Bandwidth in December 2018 as Deputy General Counsel, initially focusing on dispute resolution and litigation. Over the years, she has taken on increasing responsibilities across the legal function, including serving as the company's Ethics and Compliance Officer and leading employment law matters for Bandwidth's global workforce. She was recently promoted to Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in July 2024. Prior to joining Bandwidth, Harlan was a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Nixon Peabody LLP. She holds a bachelor's degree in Linguistics from Duke University and a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School.

As of August 31, 2026, David Asbill, who has served as the company's General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, will step down from these roles to become General Counsel Emeritus and Assistant Secretary. Asbill will continue to support the company through his retirement on December 31, 2026. During his tenure, Asbill played a crucial role in Bandwidth's evolution into a global company and built a legal function to support growth and an expanding international footprint.

Asbill expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged Harlan's qualifications, saying, "Serving as Bandwidth's General Counsel has been one of the great honors of my career.
