Elite Medicare Specialists is set to host a free event on September 22 in Petersburg, Virginia, aimed at connecting seniors and their families with essential health and safety resources. The Senior Community Resource Day & Customer Appreciation Event will bring together healthcare professionals, public safety leaders, and community organizations to offer a wide range of services and information in one convenient location.
The event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Burgess Shopping Center, 2557 S. Crater Road, is open to the public and encourages attendees to bring family members and friends. Tia Vango, President of Elite Medicare Specialists, emphasized the importance of the event, stating, "Our goal is to create an opportunity for seniors to not only learn about resources available to them but to actually meet the people and organizations providing those resources in their community."
A major focus of the day will be on senior safety. A panel discussion from noon to 1 p.m. will feature local leaders from various fields, including public safety, healthcare, legal services, and emergency preparedness. Petersburg Sheriff Vanessa R. Crawford will participate, sharing insights on issues affecting seniors and their families. Following the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Senior Self-Defense & Personal Safety Demonstration from 1 to 1:30 p.m., providing practical information for older adults about personal safety.
Healthcare professionals will offer valuable health education during the event. Dr. Tushar Shah of CenterWell Senior Primary Care will present "Staying Independent Longer: Preventive Health for Seniors" at 1:35 p.m., while Monrelle Parrish, NP, from JenCare Senior Medical Center, will discuss "Recognizing Medical Emergencies Early" at 1:55 p.m. Free health screenings will also be available throughout the day, allowing seniors and their families to connect directly with healthcare and community organizations.
The day's activities will include a line dancing session with Kemel Patton from 2:20 to 3:20 p.m., along with giveaways, prize drawings, and opportunities for attendees to meet participating organizations. Representatives from several Medicare health plans will provide brief educational spotlights throughout the program, offering valuable information for attendees to make informed healthcare decisions.
