Eleva Biologics Separates into Two Independent Companies

Eleva Biologics, a German biotech company pioneering the discovery and development of complex biologics, has announced the separation of its businesses into two independent entities: Eleva Biologics GmbH & Co. KG and One04 Therapeutics GmbH & Co. KG. This move is aimed at tailoring capital structures to the distinct strategies of each company and accelerating their growth.

Eleva Biologics will focus on leveraging its Bryotechnology platform to pursue strategic partnerships for the development and manufacturing of first-in-class biologics. The Bryotechnology platform, based on moss-based expression, has demonstrated its capability in producing complex biological candidates that other technologies could not achieve. The company plans to concentrate on discovering and developing first-in-class candidates, including recombinant antibody modalities and multi-domain fusion proteins.

One04 Therapeutics, on the other hand, will concentrate on advancing its wholly owned, first-in-class human complement Factor H therapy, CPV-104, into advanced clinical development. CPV-104 is a recombinant, full-length human Factor H therapy that has shown promise in Phase 1 testing. Factor H is a key complement control protein that has long resisted drug development due to its inability to be manufactured at scale using other GMP production platforms. CPV-104 is now the only Factor H therapeutic candidate in the clinic, and it has been discovered, optimized, and manufactured at scale using the Bryotechnology platform.

The separation of the two companies is seen as a natural progression for both entities. Björn Cochlovius, Ph.D., CEO of eleva GmbH, commented, "The successful progression of Phase 1 testing of CPV-104 is a clear indicator that the Bryotechnology platform can produce fully functional, recombinant Factor H at clinical scale. Many additional promising programs remain constrained by expression, product quality, or scale-up challenges. Eleva Biologics' mission is to help partners overcome these barriers."

Both Eleva Biologics and One04 Therapeutics are owned by eleva GmbH. The parent company will house shared general and administrative functions, enabling both companies to focus on efficiently executing their respective operations with separate financing strategies and increasingly independent capital structures.
