EL PASO, TX, UNITED STATES, October 9, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- El Paso Electric has announced a significant leadership transition, effective November 9, 2026. Eli Viamontes has been appointed as the new President and CEO, succeeding Kelly Tomblin, who will retire after over six years of transformative leadership.
Tomblin, who has been with the company since 2020, has played a pivotal role in developing and executing the company's long-term strategic plan. During her tenure, she has expanded the company's renewable energy portfolio and strengthened relationships with a diverse set of customers and stakeholders across the service region. Under her leadership, El Paso Electric has transformed into one of the premier electric utilities in the Southwest.
Viamontes brings extensive industry experience to the role. Most recently, he served as Chair, President, and CEO of Entergy Texas, where he was responsible for the utility's service to approximately 538,000 customers in 27 counties across Texas. Prior to that, he held the position of vice president of utility distribution operations for Entergy Corporation. Before joining Entergy in 2020, Viamontes served as senior director of labor relations and corporate safety at Florida Power & Light Company, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc.
Viamontes expressed his excitement about the opportunity to lead El Paso Electric.
El Paso Electric has powered the border region for over a century, serving 473,000 customers across the El Paso and Las Cruces region. The company generates, transmits, and delivers the energy that powers homes, businesses, and everything in between. Its 10,000-square-mile service area stretches from Hatch, New Mexico, to Van Horn, Texas, but its commitment stays local: keeping its community powered, connected, and growing.
Over the past six years, under Tomblin's leadership, El Paso Electric has achieved significant milestones. The company has modernized its infrastructure, strengthened reliability across the grid, and bolstered its regional footprint.
With Viamontes at the helm, El Paso Electric is poised to continue its journey of growth and innovation, ensuring that the company remains a cornerstone of the region's energy landscape.
