EHS Insight, a leading provider of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) software, has introduced a new Permit Management module that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline the handling of permits for EHS teams. This module aims to provide a centralized, AI-assisted system for managing permits, tracking requirements, and ensuring compliance.
The new module is designed to help organizations with complex or high-volume permitting requirements. It offers a structured approach to permit management, replacing fragmented tools with a more integrated system. By centralizing permit records and compliance obligations, EHS teams can gain visibility, accountability, and control over their permit management processes.
According to Eric Stevens, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of EHS Insight, "Permits are some of the densest, highest-stakes documents an EHS team has to manage, and falling behind on them carries real consequences. With this release, we're not just giving teams a place to store permits. We're giving them AI that reads the permit for them, and a system that keeps every revision connected and accountable."
The Permit Management module includes several key capabilities:
1. Permit Requirements & Tasks: This feature breaks down permits into individual regulatory requirements, providing detailed summaries, citations, and links to relevant compliance tasks. This ensures clear execution and traceability of tasks tied to permit requirements.
2. Additional Obligations: The module captures broader operational requirements that may not require formal compliance tasks. This ensures that key activities like inspections, reporting, and tracking are not overlooked.
3. Reporting & Visibility: The Permit Register offers a complete view of permits with key details, workflow status, and expiration dates. The module also provides visibility into upcoming permit expirations (30/60/90/180/270 days) to support proactive renewals. Additionally, it tracks the status of compliance tasks tied to permit requirements.
4. Permit Expiration Forecast: This feature helps teams stay ahead of permit renewals by providing a forecast of upcoming expirations. This proactive approach ensures that permits are renewed on time, reducing the risk of operational delays and legal, financial, and reputational issues.
5. AI Permit Extraction: The AI Permit Extraction feature reads the PDF attached to a permit and automatically detects, categorizes, and organizes every compliance requirement it contains. It extracts the requirement, type, summary, page number, citation, category, responsible parties, and frequency for each item found in the document. The system groups requirements into topics automatically and allows users to refine that grouping through a simple chat interface. Changes between permit revisions are detected, and what's new or updated is flagged for review. Nothing is saved to the permit until a reviewer confirms it, and every extracted item can be edited, reordered, or removed first.
EHS teams can now focus on acting on what the permit actually requires, rather than spending hours manually reading and interpreting complex legal language. The Permit Management module helps EHS teams take a more proactive, structured approach to managing permits, ensuring nothing is missed and compliance stays on track.
The Permit Management module is now available to EHS Insight customers. Organizations interested in a demo can visit the company's website at ehsinsight.com.
