Editas Medicine Appoints Dan Ory as Chief Medical Officer

Editas Medicine has appointed Dan Ory, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer, effective immediately. With over 25 years of experience in biotechnology, cardiovascular medicine, and genetic medicine, Dr. Ory will lead the company’s clinical development strategy as it advances its lead in vivo development candidate, EDIT-401, toward clinical trials for the potential treatment of hyperlipidemia.
Dr. Ory joins Editas from Arbor Biotechnologies, where he oversaw the global clinical trials for the company's lead gene editing program. Prior to that, he served as Chief Medical Officer at Casma Therapeutics, focusing on rare genetic and neurodegenerative diseases. His extensive background in cardiovascular disease and cholesterol metabolism, combined with his expertise in advancing genetic medicine programs, will be crucial as Editas continues to develop its in vivo gene editing therapies.

Dr. Ory’s academic career at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis was marked by significant contributions to the understanding of cholesterol metabolism and Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC). He was also a scientific co-founder of Vtesse Therapeutics, a rare disease company, and his clinical practice focused on preventive and diagnostic cardiology. Dr. Ory is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the Association of American Physicians (AAP).
