EDF, the French energy giant, has announced its plans to issue new green hybrid notes worth an unspecified amount. The company aims to use the net proceeds for the lifetime extension of existing nuclear reactors in France, aligning with its Green Financing Framework and the European taxonomy.

According to EDF, the new issue will be under its Euro Medium-Term Note (EMTN) program. These notes will be listed on the regulated market of Euronext Paris, providing investors with a new avenue for green financing. The move is part of EDF's broader strategy to support the energy transition and reduce carbon emissions.

The company, which is rated BBB+ with stable outlook by S&P, Baa1 stable by Moody’s, and BBB+ stable by Fitch, has been a regular issuer of various types of securities. EDF regularly assesses its financing needs and monitors the financial markets to identify opportunities for additional issuances, including senior debt, hybrids, and other securities.

EDF's green hybrid notes will be used to fund and refinance investments in the lifetime extension of the existing nuclear reactors. These reactors are part of EDF's diversified generation mix, which includes a significant proportion of low-carbon energy sources. The company aims to achieve a carbon intensity of 26.5gCO2/kWh in 2025, with 95% of its output being decarbonized.

"We are committed to supporting the energy transition and reducing our carbon footprint," said EDF in a statement. "The issuance of green hybrid notes is a step in the right direction, allowing us to finance projects that align with our environmental goals."

This announcement comes as EDF continues to play a key role in the global energy transition, offering a range of services and solutions to support the move towards a net-zero future. The company supplies energy and services to approximately 41 million customers and generated consolidated sales of €113.3 billion in 2025.

EDF's Green Financing Framework and the associated Second Party Opinion are available on the company's website under the Sustainable Finance section.
