Dunwoody College Launches Civil Engineering Degree Program

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 29, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Dunwoody College of Technology, a private, not-for-profit technical college in the Upper Midwest, is launching a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in Fall 2027. The program, which combines rigorous engineering theory with Dunwoody’s signature hands-on approach to learning, will prepare students to design, build, and maintain the infrastructure communities rely on. This will be the fourth program in Dunwoody’s School of Engineering, which includes Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, all of which are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
Founded in 1914, Dunwoody College of Technology has provided hands-on, applied technical education to more than 200,000 individuals. The college is the only private, not-for-profit technical college in the Upper Midwest. The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering will be a significant addition to the school’s curriculum, offering students a pathway to high-paying engineering careers.
The program, which will be the fourth in Dunwoody’s School of Engineering, will seek ABET accreditation. The curriculum is designed to align with the mission of the School of Engineering, which is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in high-paying engineering fields. The program will emphasize experiential learning, fieldwork, and real-world problem-solving, preparing graduates for careers in civil engineering, including structural, transportation, geotechnical, water resources, and environmental engineering.
The new program will be led by Noureen Sajid, the director of the School of Engineering. Sajid is committed to preparing students not only for their careers but also to become entrepreneurs and inventors of creative solutions. The program will be a vital addition to the civil engineering workforce, as many in the field are nearing retirement, and the industry is facing an increasing demand for new experts.
The College sought feedback from a steering committee of licensed professional engineers from public and private organizations to develop the program. The result is an engineering program that emphasizes experiential learning, fieldwork, and real-world problem-solving. Graduates will be prepared for careers across civil engineering, including structural, transportation, geotechnical, water resources, and environmental engineering. They will also be able to look forward to a career with stability, high-growth potential, and substantial pay.
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering program will incorporate modern engineering technologies, including geographic information systems (GIS), Autodesk Civil 3D, drones, LiDAR, and AI simulation tools, while emphasizing sustainable infrastructure and multidisciplinary design. As infrastructure needs continue to evolve, the program is designed to help prepare graduates with the technical expertise and practical experience employers are seeking.
