DOVER, Del., Oct. 6, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Digital CMC Consortium, a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit organization, today launched as a new industry collaboration uniting biopharmaceutical organizations, biotech firms, CDMOs, technology providers, and consulting experts around a singular goal: the end-to-end digitalization of Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC). The Consortium, established with participation from leaders at Novartis, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Takeda, Rockwell Automation, Flagship's Pioneering Medicines, Stellix, ZS Associates, and QbDVision, aims to transform the traditionally static CMC knowledge into reusable, interoperable digital assets that improve speed, quality, and operational and regulatory confidence.
The Digital CMC Consortium's mission is to accelerate therapy development by integrating existing industry guidelines and building new standards to address remaining gaps. The group is also developing the tools and code necessary to translate these standards into practical, digital-first workflows that organizations can adopt and use immediately.
Upgrading this legacy infrastructure is a significant step forward, as the CMC phase remains tethered to manual, document-based ways of working, which treat PDF tables as the source of truth. The Consortium's immediate focus is on frictionless tech transfer between sponsors and CDMOs, which will solve ecosystem and internal operational challenges. However, the ultimate goal is to connect the dots across the entire CMC lifecycle, including digital twins, knowledge management, automated content authoring, and artificial intelligence. By growing as a collaborative group, the Consortium will serve as a coordinated industry forum for technical engagement with health authorities, providing robust standards that work for both internal operations and regulatory submissions.
After a successful first year, the Consortium is moving from proof of concept to industry-scale adoption, beginning with the seamless tech transfer between sponsors and CDMOs. While this immediate focus addresses ecosystem and internal operational challenges, the ultimate goal is to connect the dots across the entire CMC lifecycle, including digital twins, knowledge management, automated content authoring, and artificial intelligence. By growing as a collaborative group, the Consortium will serve as a coordinated industry forum for technical engagement with health authorities, providing robust standards that work for both internal operations and regulatory submissions.
