QUEBEC, Oct. 19, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- On September 22, 2026, Diego Poncelet Sanchez-Cuenca, a 27-year-old skateboard racing icon from Spain and Switzerland, set a new Guinness World Record by reaching a speed of 94.34 mph (151.83 km/h) down a steep hill in Les Éboulements, Quebec, Canada. This remarkable achievement broke the previous record of 91.17 mph (143.73 km/h) set by Pete Connolly of England in 2017, using wheels from Seismic Skate Systems.

Poncelet's record-breaking run was captured on video and made public on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube on October 15, 2026. The two-time World Champion achieved this feat with the support of his main corporate sponsors, Red Bull, Porsche, and Prada. For the critical components of his skateboard, Poncelet relied on Seismic Skate Systems, which provided him with Megawatt wheels and Fullspin Pro Spec bearings. These components were specifically designed to handle the extreme speeds required for this record attempt.

Seismic's Megawatt wheels were custom-made for the record attempt, using a prototype ultra-high-rebound urethane formula. The Fullspin Pro Spec bearings were developed in collaboration with engineers from one of the world's leading bearing factories. They featured extra-tough carbonitrided raceway surfaces and a patented spacing system that ensured precise alignment. According to Poncelet, these components were essential for achieving the unprecedented speed.

The Seismic Lokton grip tape, which kept Poncelet securely locked on the board, and the Seismic Defcon bushings, which provided stable and predictable handling at high speeds, also played crucial roles. Poncelet's meticulous preparation included extensive wind tunnel testing to perfect his tuck, specialized strength and mobility training, and the development of aerodynamic helmet, speed suit, and shoes.

The record is the latest in a series of world speed and distance records set by Seismic Skate Systems, which has been pushing the boundaries of skate technology since 1993. The company, based in Boulder, Colorado, is known for its innovative approach to skateboarding and its commitment to advancing the sport.

This breakthrough performance not only elevates the global profile of skateboard racing but also highlights the potential for further advancements in skate technology. The Megawatt wheels previewed Seismic's newest high-speed urethane compound, slated for market introduction early next year. The Fullspin Pro Spec bearings, developed in partnership with a leading bearing factory, set a new standard for precision and durability.

Diego Poncelet's achievement marks a significant milestone in the history of skateboarding and underscores the ongoing evolution of the sport.
