The DFW Press & Media Club has launched a series of free live candidate debates and interviews aimed at providing North Texas voters with in-depth, unedited information on key statewide and local races. Hosted by veteran broadcaster Jeff Crilley and moderated by WFAA news anchor Jason Wheeler, the series will run from October 9 to October 23, covering critical positions such as Texas Comptroller, Land Commissioner, Railroad Commission, and Dallas County Commissioner District 2.
The initiative, titled "The Candidate Conversations," seeks to address the growing issue of media polarization and the lack of substantive candidate information available to voters.
The series will feature a mix of interviews and debates, each designed to delve into complex issues such as state budget transparency, energy grid security, and county infrastructure. The first event, scheduled for October 9 at 4:00 PM Central Time, will be a live interview with Sarah Eckhardt, the Democratic candidate for Texas Comptroller. The debate on October 22 at 12:00 PM CT will focus on Dallas County Commissioner District 2, with incumbent Commissioner Andrew Sommerman (D) and Barry Wernick (R) participating. The debate will be moderated by Jason Wheeler and co-hosted by The League of Women Voters of Dallas.
Additional events include a live candidate showcase on October 22 at 4:00 PM CT, focusing on the Texas Railroad Commission race, and a live interview with Ben Flores, the Democratic candidate for Texas Land Commissioner, on October 23 at 4:00 PM CT.
All events will be broadcast live on the DFW Press & Media Club's official digital channels, including YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Full video archives will be available on-demand following each broadcast. The organization is also working to ensure that the content reaches a wide audience, including those who prefer podcasts, social media, or on-demand video.
