t2t-soft has released the D2CSharp repository on GitHub, as previously announced in early September. The repository includes the D2CSharp program, a free Delphi-compatible runtime library for C#, a custom-developed MockRTL, and Delphi and C# tests for the systematic further development of the translation process. The D2CSharp program is based on the same rule-based translation technology as the commercial Delphi2C#, but is deliberately simpler. It can already be used free of charge to translate your own Delphi code to C#. The goal of the project is to gradually improve automatic translation while also providing the required runtime functionality in a freely available RTL. The MockRTL describes the Delphi declarations required for translation and also serves as the basis for parts of the C# RTL. It was created independently and is not based on copied Delphi RTL source code. The included tests show which Delphi constructs are already translated correctly to C# automatically and where improvements to the converter or the RTL are still needed. The long-term goal is to continuously increase the proportion of Delphi code that can be translated without manual post-processing. Developers are explicitly invited to contribute. Additions to the MockRTL, missing or improved RTL implementations, and small, reproducible test cases are especially welcome. The repository is available at: GitHub D2CSharp. Further information on Delphi2C# can be found at: Delphi2C#.
Delphi2C# 2.8.0 Improves Translation of Delphi Code with Pointers Lansing, MI (May 6, 2011), t2t-soft has released version 2.8.0 of Delphi2C#, its software for translating Delphi source code to C#. The update again improves translation quality. Its main features are a fundamentally revised pointer simulation, improved support for TObject and TClass, and additional and revised parts of the Delphi RTL. The fundamentally revised pointer simulation addresses one particular challenge when translating Delphi to C#, which is the different handling of pointers. Delphi code uses pointers extensively, but C# does not support them natively. The new simulation closely mimics the behavior of pointers in Delphi, allowing developers to use them in their C# code as if they were in Delphi. This makes the transition smoother and more intuitive for developers accustomed to Delphi's syntax.
