Defib Hawaii Expands CPR Training to Kapolei for Community Preparedness

Defib Hawaii, a Honolulu-based training provider, has launched a new initiative to bring CPR and emergency life support training closer to residents in Kapolei and West Oahu. The initiative aims to equip more people with the knowledge and skills to act quickly during critical moments of medical emergencies.

According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival during a cardiac arrest. The organization reports that most out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in homes, underscoring the importance of local training and preparedness.

Syrina Rostash, Founder and COO of Defib Hawaii, explained the reasoning behind the new initiative. "CPR is not meant to replace paramedics or emergency medical care. It is what someone can do in the minutes before professional help arrives," she said.

The Kapolei CPR Access Initiative is designed to address the practical barriers that some West Oahu residents face when traveling to urban Honolulu for training. The new program will emphasize local access through private, workplace, and community group training opportunities, when scheduling, course requirements, and group size allow.

Kapolei businesses, schools, healthcare offices, fitness facilities, childcare organizations, and community groups can contact Defib Hawaii to discuss training closer to their location. The company will use partnerships with these organizations to reach more Kapolei residents where they live and work.

The initiative will offer a range of training options, including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Heartsaver CPR/AED. Defib Hawaii will also provide initial certification, renewal, and training for students completing applicable HeartCode training.

The company's goal is to increase the number of people who know how to recognize an emergency, call 911, begin CPR, and use an AED while professional responders are on the way. This is particularly important given the geographic differences in access to emergency care in West Oahu.

The longer-term objective is to make CPR education more visible throughout West Oahu, rather than concentrating awareness and training opportunities primarily around Honolulu. Defib Hawaii plans to use partnerships with businesses, schools, healthcare organizations, and community groups to reach more Kapolei residents where they live and work.

For some West Oahu residents, commuting into Honolulu for training can create a practical barrier. The new Kapolei-focused initiative will help to address this by offering training closer to home. Defib Hawaii will continue to hold regularly scheduled individual certification classes at its Honolulu training center, but will also offer private and onsite group training by request for eligible organizations throughout Oahu.

The company believes that geographic differences in access reinforce the value of residents knowing what to do before a patient reaches a hospital. By expanding its training initiatives, Defib Hawaii aims to enhance community preparedness and improve survival rates in the event of a medical emergency.
