Dayna Spiring Named President of Winnipeg's Northern Super League Club

Manitoba's professional women's soccer scene is about to get a boost with the appointment of Dayna Spiring as President of Winnipeg's Northern Super League (NSL) club. The move comes ahead of the club’s inaugural 2027 season, marking a significant step for women's soccer in the region.

Spiring, a seasoned business leader and community advocate, brings a wealth of experience to the role. She previously served as President and CEO of Economic Development Winnipeg, where she played a pivotal role in attracting investment, talent, and major events to the city. Spiring's tenure included championing Winnipeg on the national and international stage, making her a well-respected figure in the business community.

Her leadership extends beyond business into the realm of sports. In 2016, Spiring became one of the first women to serve on the Canadian Football League's Board of Governors. She further cemented her status as a trailblazer in 2019 when she became the first woman to chair the Winnipeg Football Club Board of Directors. That same year, following the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' Grey Cup championship, Spiring became the first woman to have her name engraved on the Grey Cup. During her tenure as Chair, the Blue Bombers captured back-to-back Grey Cup championships in 2019 and 2021, underscoring her impact on the city's sporting landscape.

Spiring's appointment comes as the NSL Winnipeg club prepares to welcome its first professional women's soccer team to the city. The club was officially awarded the Northern Super League's seventh franchise in July 2026, marking the league's first expansion and bringing the first professional women's soccer to Manitoba.
