Cyngn Inc., a developer of AI-powered autonomous vehicle technology for industrial applications, has announced a significant expansion of its U.S. patent portfolio to 24 issued patents, marking a key milestone in the company’s growth. The portfolio, which includes patents granted since August 2023, underscores Cyngn’s commitment to innovation and intellectual property protection as it scales commercial deployments.

Lior Tal, Chairman and CEO of Cyngn, highlighted the strategic focus of the patents. "Since August 2023, we have been granted the substantial majority of our patents, reflecting a sustained, multi-year investment in building a robust intellectual property foundation," Tal said. "Our patents are concentrated on systems that enable one autonomy platform to operate across different vehicle types and environments, rather than on single features."

The expanded portfolio is structured into five key technology areas, each addressing critical aspects of autonomous vehicle operations:

1. Perception and Sensor Intelligence - Modular Sensor System for Automated Guided Vehicles (Patent No. 12332083): This patent covers a sensor system designed for minimal modification to existing industrial vehicles, supporting deployment across various equipment types. - Adaptive Motion Compensation of Perception Channels (Patent No. 12032099): This patent protects methods for maintaining sensor data accuracy during vehicle movement, integrating LiDAR and image data and adjusting for processing delays.

2. Adaptive Decision-Making and Behavior Planning - System and Methods of Adaptive Object-based Decision Making for Autonomous Driving (Patent No. 12039867): This patent covers methods for vehicles to identify nearby objects and make informed decisions, such as navigating around obstacles. - Adaptive Traffic Rule-Based Decision Making for Autonomous Driving (Patent No. US-11837090): This patent addresses decision-making logic that optimizes driving decisions in environments with multiple rules or constraints. - Modular Extensible Behavioral Decision System (Patent No. 11837089): This patent covers a decision-making architecture that integrates environmental elements into vehicle behavior.

3. Vehicle-Agnostic Control and Adaptability - System and Method of Adaptive, Real-Time Vehicle System Identification for Autonomous Driving (Patent No. US-12530029): This patent covers a system that builds real-time, vehicle-specific models for control commands, validating them through simulation and adapting as hardware degrades.

5. Compute Architecture - System and Methods of Off-Board Centric Autonomous Driving Computation (Patent No. 12246733): This patent covers a cloud-based approach to autonomous vehicle operations, shifting driving-related computations off the vehicle itself.

Cyngn’s technology, embodied in its DriveMod autonomous vehicle platform, is designed to help industrial organizations address challenges such as labor shortages and costly safety incidents. The company’s DriveMod technology allows customers to integrate self-driving technology into their operations without high upfront costs or infrastructure investments. Currently, DriveMod is available on Motrec MT-160 Tuggers, capable of hauling up to 12,000 lbs and targeting a typical payback period of less than two years.
