NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 16, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- CTERA, a leader in intelligent data management, has unveiled a new AI-assisted data archiving solution designed to help organizations reduce storage costs. The solution, named CTERA Data Archiving, combines CTERA InsightAI Data Service with CTERA Archive to automate the process of identifying and moving inactive enterprise data to lower-cost storage tiers.

According to CTERA, a comprehensive analysis of over 16 petabytes of live production data from 856 file-share discovery scans across multiple industries revealed that only 4.4% of stored capacity consists of data regularly accessed by users and applications. The majority of the data, 88.3% of files, had not been accessed in more than a year, while less than 10% of stored capacity had been accessed within the previous 90 days. This finding underscores the significant potential for cost savings through more efficient data management.

CTERA's new solution aims to simplify the data lifecycle management process by leveraging agentic AI to infer the content and business significance of each file. CTERA InsightAI uses metadata such as filename, path, extension, and directory context to assess the value of the data, combining this understanding with age, type, size, and usage patterns to recommend which data can be archived. This approach removes the need for manual effort in determining which data should be moved to a lower-cost tier.

With CTERA Archive, organizations can then move the identified files to a dedicated, isolated archival tier within the same CTERA environment. This ensures that archived data remains governed and accessible to AI and analytics without the need for a separate retrieval or rehydration step. The solution supports a variety of lower-cost storage targets, including hardware and cloud services, providing a more economical alternative to keeping inactive information on primary storage.

The CTERA Data Archiving Solution addresses four key challenges for organizations: 1. Reduce storage costs: By identifying inactive data and moving it to lower-cost storage tiers. 2. Simplify data lifecycle management: Using AI-driven recommendations to surface archive candidates, reducing the complexity of the process. 3. Maintain governance and compliance: Providing configurable retention policies and maintaining an audit trail of archive and restore operations. 4. Lower data exposure and risk: Moving inactive data out of primary storage to reduce the amount of sensitive information exposed in file systems.

Oded Nagel, CEO of CTERA, commented, "The challenge has always been knowing what data can safely move and then providing a practical path to execute that migration. By pairing CTERA InsightAI, which understands what data means to the business and not just how old it is, with the governance and controls of CTERA Archive, the CTERA Data Archiving Solution gives IT teams a much simpler, AI-guided way to bring discipline to the enterprise data lifecycle without sacrificing access."

The CTERA Data Archiving Solution is part of the company's flagship CTERA Intelligent Data Platform, designed to enable organizations to efficiently and effectively manage, protect, and leverage their unstructured data across highly distributed environments. With a foundation built on security, scale, and seamless integration, the platform empowers organizations to align their data management strategies to continuously deliver against today's business needs and tomorrow's vision.
