CLAUDE, Texas, Sept. 28, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Crusoe, the AI factory company, has announced the development of a new data center campus in Armstrong County, Texas. The project, which is set to provide capacity for advanced AI, is being built at the site of Google’s data center campus, under construction outside Amarillo. This development marks Crusoe’s commitment to building AI infrastructure directly at the source of abundant, low-cost energy.

According to Chase Lochmiller, CEO and co-founder of Crusoe, the company’s strategy is to build AI factories at the source of energy to improve the utilization of existing assets and catalyze new energy generation. The Armstrong County campus is a prime example of this energy-first approach. Construction broke ground in June 2025 and is underway, with more than 5,500 skilled laborers on-site daily, bringing significant investment and employment to the local community.

The campus has a direct connection to Serena's adjacent Goodnight 1 (265.5 MW) wind farm, which is operational. Additionally, the Goodnight 2 (265.5 MW) wind farm, currently under construction, was catalyzed by Crusoe’s development at the site. When wind generation exceeds campus demand, surplus power is supplied back to the grid, benefiting local ratepayers and reducing curtailment of West Texas wind energy. By co-locating directly at the source of West Texas wind energy, Crusoe’s approach actively supports the region's buildout of clean, affordable energy.

Crusoe’s innovative energy approach is not limited to the Armstrong County campus. The company is also developing two additional campuses in Abilene, further establishing West Texas as a critical region for the future of American digital infrastructure. The project is designed for water efficiency, utilizing a closed-loop, non-evaporative liquid cooling system, which is designed to significantly limit the facility's water footprint to primarily domestic uses such as kitchens.

The project is part of Crusoe's growing West Texas portfolio and is supported by Google’s Energy Impact Fund, which recently announced support for efficiency upgrades in public buildings and homes in Armstrong County. This support underscores the company’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in the region.

In summary, Crusoe’s development in Armstrong County represents a significant step in the company’s mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. By leveraging large-scale energy sources and building AI-optimized data centers, Crusoe is positioning itself as a key player in the future of digital infrastructure in the United States.
